The iconic 90-kilometer journey from Sälen to Mora is the oldest, longest, and most esteemed long-distance ski race globally, holding a unique place on the Pro Tour calendar, with a heritage that is unparalleled in Nordic skiing.
Inaugurated in 1922 and inspired by Gustav Vasa’s legendary escape in 1520, Vasaloppet beautifully intertwines tradition, athletic prowess, and Swedish winter culture. Each year, countless skiers assemble in the spacious start area of Sälen to undertake the trek to Mora, aspiring to join the ranks of those who have left their mark on long-distance skiing history.
In the previous season, both Stina Nilsson and Alvar Myhlback celebrated poignant victories, with Myhlback also etching his name in history as the youngest male winner of Vasaloppet. In 2026, the event is set to capture worldwide interest once again as competitors and enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the next chapter of this sporting monument.
“Vasaloppet takes pride in being part of Ski Classics. Thanks to the Pro Tour, we maintain a notable presence among TV audiences, both internationally and within Sweden. We look forward to seeing some new Olympic medalists at the start line in 2026,” said Tommy Höglund, Sport Director of Vasaloppet, in a previous statement.
