Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has unveiled the new unified brand, Pirineu365, which consolidates six distinguished ski resorts in the area: Vall de Núria, Vallter, La Molina, Port Ainé, Espot, and Boí Taüll. This initiative seeks to make the Catalan mountains appealing to visitors not just in winter, but throughout the year. The motivation behind this strategy stems from climate change concerns as well as the aim to generate new employment opportunities and boost economic growth in the Pyrenees.

The ski season is set to run from December 4 to April 6; however, infrastructure and services will remain available beyond these dates. A noteworthy innovation is the FlexiPass — a contemporary payment solution enabling visitors to pay only for their actual slope usage. For a mere 15 euros annually, guests gain access to all resorts, complete with a guaranteed minimum price and insurance. After skiing for 17 days, additional use is free. This approach is crafted to enhance slope accessibility, remove the need for advance pass purchases, and decrease waiting times.

Investment in infrastructure and new leisure formats

FGC is making significant investments to develop the resorts further. Vallter is set to see the construction of a new cable car, which will alleviate road traffic and streamline access to the slopes. This project is currently being prepared for public consultation, with the company aiming to expedite its execution. At La Molina, the modernization of the beloved mountain lodge Niu de l’Àliga is ongoing; it now operates year-round as a restaurant and recreational area accessible via cable car. The revamped facility includes a new event space, providing fresh opportunities for business tourism in the mountains.

Rethinking tourism in the Pyrenees

Uniting the resorts under a single brand not only enhances service offerings but also attracts diverse visitors—not limited to skiers, but also those who enjoy hiking, cycling, culinary tours, or simply unwinding in nature. FGC aims to elevate the contribution of mountain resorts to the regional economy from 10% to 13% in the coming years. The company is optimistic about the upcoming season, supported by promising snow forecasts and well-maintained slopes, believing that the new strategy will position the Pyrenees as a desirable year-round destination.
