Multiple-time champion of Russia in ski-alpinism, Nikita Filippov, shared his thoughts on how he and other Russians are perceived at international competitions. The athlete highlighted the positive attitude from his foreign colleagues.
According to Filippov, many foreign athletes and their coaches have shown kindness. He specifically mentioned an Italian coach from the American team who treated him with particular warmth, calling him his idol and offering assistance with equipment and during the races.
“Many foreign athletes and coaches have a great attitude toward us, Russians. The US team has been coached for a couple of years by an Italian specialist who treats me like family. He says, ‘Nikita, you’re my idol!’ He’s a good guy and does a great job,” the athlete stated in an interview with ‘Championat’.
Filippov also noted that the American team always welcomed him warmly in their relaxation area during competitions, where he could prepare for his races.
