Barlybay Sadykov, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Kenya and Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Nairobi, met with Radhika Ochalik, the Secretary of the Governing Bodies and Director of Governance Affairs at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The discussion focused on the ongoing collaboration between Kazakhstan and UNEP, plans for enhancing environmental cooperation, and the participation of the Kazakh delegation in upcoming UN events.
Significant emphasis was placed on the preparations for the Regional Environmental Summit set to be held in Astana in 2026, initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Additionally, the meeting covered Kazakhstan’s participation in the 7th session of the UN Environment Assembly, scheduled for December 8-12, 2025, in Nairobi. The central theme for this session will be “Advancing sustainable solutions for a sustainable planet.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties committed to continuing their collaborative efforts on environmental matters and expressed their willingness to explore further joint initiatives aimed at strengthening Kazakhstan’s ties with UNEP.
